In January 2018, the federal government announced a crackdown on the marijuana industry.
But a year later, there is still no federal law that allows states to regulate the marijuana trade.
Here are some of the states where marijuana is still illegal, and some of their restrictions: Alabama – Marijuana remains illegal under federal law.
Alabama is home to a number of high-profile marijuana dispensaries, including Delta Drip, where you can buy edibles and other products.
But you cannot smoke marijuana inside the state’s parks or anywhere that is not on the National Park Service’s National Park System (NPLS).
The state is also a major hub for recreational pot shops.
The Alabama Legislature has passed a bill that would legalize marijuana for medical use, but the state is still looking at the potential costs of enforcing it.
Alaska – Marijuana is still banned under state law, but recreational pot sales have been allowed in Alaska.
The state has allowed pot sales since December 2018, and the state will begin issuing licenses to marijuana dispensaries by January 2020.
The bill would allow recreational pot businesses to sell to anyone who is 21 years old or older, and would prohibit the sale of marijuana to anyone younger than 21.
Arkansas – Recreational pot is still prohibited under state and local law, and Arkansas has allowed a handful of medical marijuana dispensaries.
Arkansas also has strict rules on when and how businesses can open, and stores cannot sell to minors.
California – Recreant marijuana remains illegal in California, and in some parts of the state, you can’t smoke marijuana indoors.
California has permitted recreational pot dispensaries since October 2018.
The first licensed pot store opened in the state in December 2018.
However, the state still has strict guidelines for where pot shops can open.
In December 2018 the city of San Diego banned marijuana stores from operating within its borders.
The city has since changed the rules, allowing them to operate outside of city limits.
Washington – Recreants marijuana remains prohibited under federal and state law.
Recreants are allowed to sell marijuana at marijuana cafes and grow centers in the nation’s capital, but pot shops are still banned from operating.
