KATE RITTENHOUSE LAWYER JOB: JOB EXPIRES August 1, 2018, 2018 The Environmental Justice Legal Center, a Washington, D.C.-based environmental advocacy group, has hired the attorney and attorney general to lead the organization’s “legal defense fund.”
This new hire, who has worked on several environmental legal cases, is expected to begin her tenure with the legal defense fund in late 2018, according to the organization.
The legal defense funds are intended to cover legal costs incurred by groups like the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), which advocates for the legal rights of the environment, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and other civil liberties groups, as well as environmental groups in states that enact laws regulating the extraction, processing, sale and disposal of coal, natural gas and other fossil fuels.
In an emailed statement, EDF said that the group is pleased to have a lawyer in the Trump administration who understands the issues facing our nation and the importance of defending the rights of people living in the coal country.
“The President’s decision to appoint an attorney to represent the interests of coal miners and families affected by his anti-coal policies is yet another example of how President Trump’s campaign promise to “make America great again” is being implemented,” EDF President and CEO Michael Brune said.
“As we work to defend against Trump’s policies and his administration, we hope the administration will consider the important role of our lawyers in defending the rule of law.”
The EDF’s board of directors has endorsed Trump’s Cabinet picks, including Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Energy Secretary Rick Perry and Secretary of Labor Tom Perez.
Trump also nominated to the federal bench Judge Neil Gorsuch, a conservative jurist, as his Supreme Court nominee.
